peteread Posted January 5, 2005 Report Posted January 5, 2005 Anyone got any ideas on this one? Drivers electric window works in global unlock and lock position, works when key is in ignition and turned so dash lights up but car not running, when car is running window does not work at all. Its got me baffled, I was wandering if it could be the battery not being big enough and not getting sufficient charge because the car only does short runs. Also the read wash and wiper system doesn't work either. Tried looking at rubber in tailgate but I cannot see any problems. Quote
Guest MATT Posted January 5, 2005 Report Posted January 5, 2005 my Galaxy (1.9TDI Auto) has also had power problems just lately, I tested the battery and it was reading 0 - 25 % Charge (that Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted January 5, 2005 Report Posted January 5, 2005 ... it was reading 0 - 25 % Charge (that Quote

Guest vr6galaxy Posted January 5, 2005 Report Posted January 5, 2005 Ah! the old naked car maintenance tip :( its done naked in colder climes so that dangling extremity's shrink! and the risk of them being caught in moving machinery is reduced  Quote
peteread Posted January 6, 2005 Author Report Posted January 6, 2005 So know ones got any idea then or do I assume its the battery???? Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted January 6, 2005 Report Posted January 6, 2005 Rear wiper failure is usually due to the cables in the rubber boot failing, check them again, a lot of the time it's not a clean break! the cable's copper core may have broken and seperated but the outer insulation is still in one piece giveing the impression of the cable being ok, give the cable a bit of a tug and see if they strech? does the rear washer jet still work? if not do the front washer jets still work? if no then the pump or its power supply has failed! if yes then we can forget about the pump and look elsewhere, the switch may have failed? the neutral link may have dropped off in the hatch? the fuse has gone? the cables to the switch stalk may have failed? as for the windows operation, that could be any thing from a duff switch, central locking, global closure ECU playing up, a duff wire in the door loom.......... again it's a case of stripping bits down and checking them out till you find the problem or go loopy in the proccess! Guest MATT Posted January 6, 2005 Report Posted January 6, 2005 i agree with VR6Galaxy, although, the fact it works when the engine isn Quote
peteread Posted January 7, 2005 Author Report Posted January 7, 2005 Found the prob with rear wash/wiper, I think! The wires inside the rubber housing on the right of the tail gate were quite degraded, well split. Now my next question is do I replace them with newer wire or just patch them up with insulation tape? As there is very little room for wire connectors I presume it would have to be the latter? Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted January 7, 2005 Report Posted January 7, 2005 Patch and replace as nessacery, if possible try to replace the broken piece of cable, add a section into the broken section and feed the joint/s back into the main body/hatch so that the joint doesnt get strained or moved to much, that way it should last a bit longer! Guest MATT Posted January 7, 2005 Report Posted January 7, 2005 If it were me, id replace it with some 'More Substantial stuff', i.e. flexible, but thicker! Quote
